GoCanvas is one of the highest-scoring businesses, with standout employee engagement

Reston, VA (May 16, 2019) – GoCanvas, whose products simplify how companies collect, process and analyze information, has been named one of Inc. magazine’s Best Workplaces for 2019, the fourth annual ranking in the fast-growing private company sector.

Hitting newsstands May 28 in the June 2019 issue, and as part of a prominent Inc.com feature, the list is the result of a wide-ranging and comprehensive measurement of private American companies that have created exceptional workplaces through vibrant cultures, deep employee engagement, and stellar benefits. Collecting data on nearly 2,000 submissions, Inc. singled out 346 finalists.

Each nominated company took part in an employee survey, conducted by Omaha’s Quantum Workplace, on topics including trust, management effectiveness, perks, and confidence in the future. Inc. gathered, analyzed, and audited the data. Then we ranked all the employers using a composite score of survey results. This year, 74.2 percent of surveyed employees were engaged by their work—besting last year’s 72.1 percent.

The strongest engagement scores came from companies that prioritize the most human elements of work. These companies are leading the way in employee recognition, performance management, and diversity. It’s a different playbook from a decade ago, when too many firms used the same template: free food, open work environments, and artifacts of “fun.”

All companies had to have a minimum of 10 employees and be U.S.-based, privately held, and independent—that is, not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies.

While researching the finalists, Inc. and Quantum saw distinct themes:

• 99 percent provide health insurance—and some cover the cost.
• 49 percent allow employees to bring pets to work.
• 65 percent take employees to offsite retreats to relax and recharge.
• 16 percent offer paid sabbaticals to reward length of service.

GoCanvas and Square now make it easier to get paid faster.  GoCanvas Admins and Designers can now easily drag-and-drop a Payments field into any GoCanvas form to allow your staff to accept credit card payments onsite, using the popular Square mobile payments service. With any GoCanvas form capable of accepting Square, the integration between your business and finance operation can now be more streamlined than ever before.  Of course, if you don’t already have a Square account, you can register for Square from within the GoCanvas App Builder.  Here’s a link to help you set up Square in GoCanvas.

Getting paid faster and reducing bad debt by ensuring payment before your employees leave the worksite might just be reason enough to update your GoCanvas forms to include Square.  GoCanvas customers asked for Square by name, which is not surprising considering all of the paperwork that can be eliminated with this new payment option.

New Square users are eligible for a free Square magstripe reader (headset jack or Lightning connector versions). Another benefit is that you can permanently link payments collected via Square directly to your customers’ unique projects captured in GoCanvas. So, not only are your employees off the hook for filling out paper-based estimates, invoices, and other work documents, they are freed of having to connect a customer’s check or cash payment to the corresponding paperwork — a headache that occurs sometimes months after the actual work product is delivered.

We are super excited about the release of the GoCanvas Community.

Why are we so excited? Because the Community is a great way to view and share the information that matters the most to you. The GoCanvas Community is where tips, tricks, best practices, and advice live. You’ll be able to get real-world solutions from other users, submit feature requests, and keep up-to-date with the latest releases!

The Community will soon become the hub for all things GoCanvas.

How is it Different from the Help Center?

The Help Center is a static database of information pertaining to the many different aspects of the GoCanvas platform. By being static, the information is presented to you in a way that is meant to be quickly digested and comprehended. While useful in many situations, it doesn’t always apply to more complex situations within the GoCanvas platform. Whereas the Community is dynamic; with users creating posts, and anyone (including GoCanvas staff) having the ability to respond to feedback or insight.

The Help Center will continue to house documentation about our features and how to use the product, while the Community will cater more to creative problem solving, specific use cases, and collaborative troubleshooting, as well as giving ways for users to give feedback and to make feature requests.

Who & When Should I Use it?

When you’re having a problem or are trying something new, chances are someone can point you toward a solution. Think of the Community as a sounding board for your specific questions and issues.

The Community will truly thrive when everyone, new and experienced GoCanvas users alike, see it as a place to post problems and find creative solutions. The more input from you the better!

This release is all about improving our mobile app software for Android, iOS and our Windows Desktop App. For iOS we are excited to release functionality that leverages Apple’s latest operating system. We hope this helps our mobile users have a better and more productive experience when filling out forms with GoCanvas.

iOS Features

Apple has released their latest version of iOS and here at GoCanvas our mobile developers have been exploring the new software and beta testing it for a few months now.  We have added a couple of features to leverage new functionality offered by Apple.

Photo “Keyboard”

This feature is available when capturing photos with GoCanvas. Your photo gallery and a capture screen appear where your keyboard normally appears. The screen within the Canvas form you are filling out remains in place. We hope this saves mobile users a few seconds per photo by reducing the number of clicks it takes to capture photos with GoCanvas. If you pull photos from your gallery regularly, this will save you a lot of time.

Multi-Tasking – Enhanced with iOS 11

The multi-tasking capability that Apple launched in a previous release was enhanced with iOS 11. We now allow you to multi-task with GoCanvas.  This allows you to run two apps side by side on your iPad Air 2 or iPad Pro. So you can have your Photos app open on one side of your screen and Canvas on the other. You can quickly find the images you need to include with your GoCanvas submissions. Or if there are other apps you use for your job you can run that one along with Canvas. Our hope is that our mobile users gain some productivity benefits here saving valuable time while on the job.

Drag and Drop Photos – iOS 11

Thanks to iOS 11 we are now able to allow you to drag and drop photos into GoCanvas. Using the photo “keyboard” you can now drag photos from your gallery right into GoCanvas. Or if you are using our new multi-tasking feature you can drag photos from your Photos app right into Canvas. This only works on an iPad Air 2 or iPad Pro. Apple only supports it on those devices.

Pinch to Zoom on Photos

Customers have asked for this and we are happy to deliver it with this release. When you are previewing images you have captured with GoCanvas you are now able to pinch and zoom in on them. This will help you confirm if the picture you have taken captures what you were hoping to capture. Or if you are using Workflow and send a submission to another user that person can zoom in to get a better look at the image.

Canvas Windows Desktop App

Automatic App Restart

When we released our completely re-built Windows Desktop App there were some features we didn’t make available initially.  This was one of them.  This feature allows you to restart a Canvas form after a user hits the “Submit” button. So if you are using Canvas in a retail or kiosk environment (waivers, entering customer information, etc.) where your customers are filling out a Canvas form you can just have the form restart after the previous user hits the “Submit” button. This way you don’t have to have your customers tap on the name of the form to fill it out.
